If your glaucoma is causing uncontrolled eye pressure or you are seeking an alternative to expensive medications, you may want to consider a laser procedure to help lower your intraocular pressure.
A new device called the Cyclo G6 Laser System, manufactured by Iridex, features single-use probes which are attached to a laser console.
The Cyclo G6 provides patients with many benefits including:
- Non-incisional treatment
- Fast relief from uncontrolled eye pressure
- A less invasive alternative to surgical intervention or implants
- Low patient downtime
- Minimal to no inflammation post-op
- Reducing or eliminating the need for expensive eye drops
- Repeatability, if necessary
Currently, the Cyclo G6 has two probes: the MicroPulse P3 probe (MP3) and the G-Probe.
MicroPulse P3 Probe can be used for a broad range of glaucoma patients. The MP3 probe is placed perpendicular to the surface of the eye and administers short-energy pulses in a sweeping motion from 9:30- 2:30 and 3:30-8:30 clock positions.
One of the best advantages of the MP3 Probe is the tissue-sparing technology, which helps spare the delicate trabecular meshwork of your eye. By separating the continuous-wave laser beam into small, repetitive, low-energy pulses, your eye tissue can cool between each laser pulse. Shorter pulse times limit the laser energy being applied, which makes the procedure safe and even repeatable. Your doctor can even adjust the micropulse settings for greater flexibility and customized treatment.
The G-Probe is used for later stage glaucoma patients. Its wedge shape administers laser pulses around the circumference of the limbus, or the border between the cornea and sclera. The limbus contains the pathways for the intraocular fluid, which is the source of the increased eye pressure. In the comfort of your doctor’s office, the G-Probe provides nonsurgical, long-term, effective relief to elevated eye pressure.
Whether using the MP3 probe or the G-Probe, the Cyclo G6 is quick and gentle, and studies show that the procedure lowers intraocular pressure by 30 to 40 percent.
